Poroshenko named strengthening the Ukrainian Armed Forces and European integration as key priorities for the Verkhovna Rada.
During his speech in the Verkhovna Rada, the fifth president and leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, identified two key priorities for parliament: strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine and fulfilling Ukraine’s obligations to join the European Union.
“We’ve been at war for over 1,500 days. 1,500 days of bitter losses. And at the same time, 1,500 days of hope for victory, for peace, and for Ukraine to become part of the European Union,” Poroshenko recalled.
“Two things are crucial for our country, and the Verkhovna Rada must address them first and foremost now. The first is strengthening the armed forces, supporting and funding them to bring peace closer. And the second is harmonizing legislation and fulfilling our obligations to accelerate our accession to the European Union,” the fifth President noted.
“Ukraine has acquired the status of a candidate country, thanks to the victims of Mariupol and Bucha and the heroism of the Armed Forces. And parliament must be capable of taking advantage of this narrow window of opportunity, so that we can realize these opportunities,” Poroshenko said.
“Four months ago, the Ukrainian government and the European Commission agreed on the so-called Kachka-Kos plan. Ten steps that parliament was supposed to take. How many steps have been taken in these months? Zero.
“This is parliament’s responsibility. How much is on the agenda for today and tomorrow? Zero. We can’t continue to operate this way,” the party leader emphasized.
“European Solidarity demands that the bills of the “Utka-Kos plan” be introduced. Bills to ban Telegram, to create a temporary investigative committee for roads, and to address the Cherkasy incident. Bills that will enable us to ensure the rule of law,” Petro Poroshenko listed.
“I want to point out that the EU faction will vote for the bills we co-sponsored. We finally had meetings with government representatives. The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada visited us. And where our proposals are taken into account, including the military levy, European Solidarity will support it,” Poroshenko noted. As is known, European Solidarity demands that the military levy funds be directed to a special fund for financing the army.
Poroshenko once again called for the formation of a national unity coalition and recalled the experience of the full-scale invasion, when parliament worked to strengthen the state’s defenses. “Let’s bring back the atmosphere of February 24, 2022,” the opposition leader urged.
