Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko told MSNBC that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of ending the war, and only a united stance from Ukraine, Europe, and the United States can compel him to agree to a ceasefire.

This was reported by the press service of “European Solidarity”.

“We do not doubt that without a strong position from our partners in the European Union, NATO, and the United States, Putin will not stop the war. But now, after the summits in Anchorage and Washington, we at least have serious hopes that this is possible,” Poroshenko said.

He emphasized that this is exactly what Putin does not want.

“This is because Putin wants to kill Ukrainians. Putin wants to take over Ukraine. In Poltava, Chernihiv, and Odesa, we face drone attacks and ballistic missile strikes every night. This further proves that we urgently need an unconditional, strong, comprehensive, and all-out ceasefire. It can be implemented within an hour. Putin’s pretext of a long-term peace agreement with unpredictable results is not what we are seeking,” the fifth President stated.

Poroshenko added that he has the authority to speak on this issue, having experience in negotiations with Putin since 2014.

“I believe it was our victory, Ukraine’s victory, and the victory of the Normandy Format with U.S. participation that allowed us to achieve a ceasefire in late 2014–early 2015 within the framework of the Minsk Process,” he recalled.

“What was Putin’s goal? To divide the entire Western world, to undermine all attempts at unity and solidarity. And he failed. The Washington summit was perhaps the first—or at least a rare—occasion when all European leaders, together with the US President and the Ukrainian President, demonstrated unity with Ukraine and transatlantic solidarity. This gives us strong hope and makes us stronger,” the fifth president stated.

The leader of European Solidarity also added that Ukraine’s participation in NATO formats is the most effective and cost-efficient way to stop the war.
