Petro Poroshenko announced on social media about his meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, who arrived in Kyiv yesterday for a visit.
“Congratulated Germany on Unity Day and noted how important this experience is for Ukraine. We talked a lot about the situation at the front, the needs of our army and state, the state of the energy sector and the economy, especially on the eve of the difficult autumn-winter season,” the fifth President wrote.

“I noticed that Putin is betting big on this period, hoping to break Ukraine. Our task is to stand firm, endure, and not break. Then he will break,” Poroshenko is convinced.

“I was glad to hear Chancellor Merz’s call on the importance of a complete and unconditional ceasefire. Only after that can we talk about real diplomacy and meaningful negotiations. Our position is common here. Europe must be at the negotiating table. The way to this is through further strengthening Ukraine: strengthening our army and air defense, developing the defense industry, joint investments and production, scaling up Ukrainian technologies and inventions that have already proven their effectiveness on the battlefield,” Poroshenko believes.

“I specifically drew attention to the importance of supporting Ukrainian business, which today remains an important part of the state’s stability. In particular, we are talking about expanding the possibilities of insuring businesses against military risks,” writes Petro Poroshenko.

“Important attention was paid to Ukraine’s European integration. I thanked Chancellor Merz for the initiative to accelerate our accession to the EU. Everything that brings Ukraine closer to membership is important, if it does not become an alternative to it. I emphasized the importance of opening the next two negotiation clusters and expressed hope that the relevant decisions will be made in the near future. At the same time, a significant part of the path to the EU depends on Ukraine itself. On the reforms that our European friends expect. On the fight against corruption, strengthening the rule of law and democracy. We agreed to continue to maintain a close dialogue, in particular within the framework of our common political family – the European People’s Party,” the leader of Eurosolidarity summarizes.
