Poroshenko: Russia’s income from transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline amounts to up to a thousand “shahids” per day

Petro Poroshenko once again called on the Ukrainian authorities to halt the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. In a comment to journalists, Poroshenko noted that with the money from this transit, Russia could produce a thousand Shahids per day, or 350,000 per year.

“Stop transiting Russian energy resources through Ukrainian territory. This depends entirely on you. While we block Russian energy exports worldwide, almost $25 million worth of Russian oil transits through Ukrainian territory every day, or over $7 billion annually,” Poroshenko said.

“With the money that flows through Ukrainian territory, Russia can purchase up to 350,000 Shahids. That means up to a thousand Shahids a day. Every Kyiv resident, every Ukrainian, knows what Shahids are and what their attacks are,” Poroshenko said.

He also recalled that it was the current authorities who signed the extension of the contract for the transit of Russian oil, which expired in December 2019.

“By the way, during my term, we signed nothing of the sort regarding the Druzhba oil pipeline. And we terminated the contract with Russia’s Gazprom by filing a lawsuit against it in Stockholm,” the fifth President stated.

“European Solidarity” registered a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada and an appeal to the government. Europe is talking about this, the United States is talking about this. Only Ukraine is not responding. I don’t rule out that we will contact the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate a possible conflict of interest, because some petroleum products produced from Russian oil are being returned to Ukraine at subsidized prices. And dishonest businessmen, according to information we have from law enforcement sources, are receiving corrupt proceeds,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
