Poroshenko warned Europeans that Putin is defeating them in the information war.
During a discussion at the annual security conference in Visby, Sweden, Petro Poroshenko stated that Europe is losing the information war against Putin because it doesn’t fully recognize the danger. Russia, meanwhile, is strengthening the influence of its political satellites in the European Union through extensive propaganda, as evidenced by the results of the latest elections.
“I was very disappointed that 50% of German voters believe that taxpayer funds spent on supporting Ukraine are wasted. And I believe this is happening because we are losing the information battle to Putin. The result? The topic of the Ukrainian war is not a priority for German and European media,” Poroshenko said.
He called on Europeans to send correspondents to Ukraine to gain inside information and convey potential dangers to their audiences.
“European viewers have a right to know about this. What kind of disaster is happening to the power grid, and how Europe could be paralyzed within 12 hours—completely paralyzed—if we don’t invest in security together,” warns Petro Poroshenko.
“So my proposal: let’s raise the issues of information security and obtaining accurate information. This isn’t propaganda; we’ll convey the truth through the eyes of your correspondents, whom people trust. We’ll be happy to create the necessary conditions for them,” says the Fifth President.
“Russia already has a deep presence in your capitals through information. If you don’t invest in your defense against Russia, it will lure you into elections, using democratic mechanisms, and seize power. We must defend democracy,” Poroshenko emphasized.
