Poroshenko welcomed the return of Lavrska Street named after Hetman Mazepa
Petro Poroshenko welcomed the decision of the Kyiv City Council to return Lavrska Street to its historical name – the name of Hetman Ivan Mazepa.
This was reported by the press center of “European Solidarity”.
Poroshenko recalled that the office of “European Solidarity” has been located on this street for over ten years, and that it used to be named after Mazepa. According to him, during the Yanukovych era, “Moscow priests forced the authorities” to rename it Lavrskaya.
The politician emphasized that the Russian church anathemaed Mazepa three centuries ago, and Russia is still trying to manipulate his image. Poroshenko also recalled Putin’s speech to American politicians, where the Kremlin leader once again presented a distorted interpretation of the Battle of Poltava and Mazepa’s role.
He thanked the Kyiv City Council and the team of “European Solidarity. Kyiv” for their work on returning the name and stated that decolonization is no small matter, because “it makes a difference to us which streets to walk on.”
Earlier it was reported that Petro Poroshenko, from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada, called for the immediate release of NABU detective Ruslan Maghamedrasulov .
As a reminder, Petro Poroshenko is sending six new washing and shower complexes to the front.
