Russia is optimizing its forces for a positional war against Ukraine. In particular, the occupiers are increasing the supply of light motorized vehicles to the Russian troops.
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
As analysts noted, among the priorities in providing occupation forces this year, the Russian military command has identified the supply of light modernized equipment. And this once again demonstrates how the Russian army is optimizing itself for positional warfare.”
Ukrainian military observer Konstantin Mashovets wrote on January 22 that the Russian military command plans to provide Russian assault units with more than 2,600 light motor vehicles – buggies, motorcycles, and all-terrain vehicles (quads) – from the reserve of the Russian General Staff in 2026.
Another 4,200 such vehicles are scheduled to be provided by the Russian defense-industrial base during the first quarter.
Mashovets said that the Russian military command relies on “non-systemic procurement,” such as volunteer assistance, donations, and budget contributions from individual regions, to achieve its overall goals.
Russian troops mostly use light motorized vehicles to transport infantry closer to the front line.
“The Russian military command’s focus on the production and supply of light equipment further demonstrates ISW’s ongoing assessment that Russian forces have optimized themselves for positional warfare in Ukraine, and that Russia’s advance is likely to remain limited in the near to medium term,” the report said.
As a reminder, 222 combat clashes were recorded on the front over the past 24 hours – Russian troops sharply increased the intensity of assaults, air strikes, and the use of kamikaze drones along the entire line of combat clash.
As reported, as of the morning of January 23, Russia had lost about 1,232,090 soldiers since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Over the course of the day, the enemy’s losses in manpower reached 1,280 people.
