Today, August 14, Donald Trump made a series of statements ahead of his summit with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, sharing his views on the Kremlin’s readiness for an agreement, expressing doubts about a rapid ceasefire, outlining plans for a new meeting with President Zelenskyy, and signaling his intention to discuss borders and territorial issues.
This is reported by CNN.
Putin Wants to Make a Deal
Trump stated that Putin is now determined to reach an agreement.
“I believe he is now convinced of the need to make a deal. He will make it. I think he will do it, and we will figure it out,” the American president said, emphasizing that he sees a genuine willingness to compromise on the Kremlin’s side.
Doubts About the Ceasefire
At the same time, Trump openly admitted that he is not confident in the effectiveness of the upcoming negotiations.
“There is a 25% chance that this meeting will not be successful,” he stressed, commenting on the prospects of achieving a ceasefire following the summit.
Meeting with Zelenskyy: Three Possible Locations
After his talks with Putin, Trump plans to call the Ukrainian president to arrange a second meeting.
“I have three options for the venue,” he said, adding that the final decision will depend on the outcome of the Alaska summit.
Discussion of Borders and Territorial Issues
The American president clarified that further negotiations could also involve territorial matters.
“There will be discussions on borders, lands, and other related topics,” he noted, emphasizing that he does not intend to negotiate in place of the Ukrainian or Russian leadership.
We should add that on the eve of the planned summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin made a loud statement regarding the war in Ukraine.
It was previously reported that the Russian government plane Il-96-300 of the special forces unit “Russia”, flight RSD 381, took off from Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport and headed for Anchorage, a city in the American state of Alaska, where talks at the highest level are planned.
It should be noted that US President Donald Trump has insisted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy not attend talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, which are scheduled to take place in Alaska. The reason is the fear that Zelensky’s presence could disrupt the dialogue with the Kremlin. At the same time, US President Donald Trump is ready to offer Ukraine security guarantees, but outside the North Atlantic Alliance.
As reported, US President Donald Trump planned to present economic incentives at his meeting with Vladimir Putin on August 15 — but not through NATO. If Moscow agrees to end the war in Ukraine, Washington could offer it preferences that would change the balance.
