Possible sabotage: train with 180 passengers derails in northern France

In northern France, a passenger train derailed near Cleon in Normandy, injuring at least 44 people. An 18-year-old girl is in critical condition, and 43 other passengers suffered minor injuries.

The train, carrying 180 passengers, was traveling between Rouen and Caen. According to police, it derailed after colliding with an unidentified object.

The 18-year-old victim was taken by helicopter to Rouen University Hospital. Other passengers suffered minor injuries, including from broken glass and objects falling inside the carriage.

140 firefighters were sent to the scene to carry out the rescue operation. Authorities in the Seine-Maritime department urged local residents to refrain from traveling to the accident area.

The railway operator and the local prosecutor’s office have launched an investigation into the causes of the accident. The investigation is considering the possibility of deliberate actions and does not rule out sabotage.

The reason for this was a piece of rail found on the tracks. Investigators are determining whether the train collided with it and whether this fragment caused the derailment.

Recall that a commuter train accident occurred in Barcelona after a retaining wall collapsed on the track . As a result of the incident, at least one person died and 37 others were injured, including five in serious condition.
