Igor Nesterov, a mercenary from the Wagner PMC and trainer of Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin, was killed in the Republic of Mali.

This was reported by LB.UA, citing sources in Ukrainian intelligence.

It is noted that Nesterov died while performing a combat mission in northwest Africa. Although the Wagner Group previously reported the successful completion of its mission in Mali, they continue to suffer losses in that country.

As is known, Igor Nesterov has actively participated in hostilities against Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, repeatedly appearing in photos with other Russian mercenaries. It is also known that Russian boxer Alexander Povetkin, whom Nesterov trained, supported Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Mali has been at war since 2012, when rebel groups began fighting for greater autonomy and independence. In 2021, a military coup brought Colonel Asimi Goita to power. It was then that Russian mercenaries arrived in Mali at his invitation.

Let us recall that last summer in Mali, Africa, a detachment of Tuareg militias, the “Defense of the People of Azawad”, defeated a column of Russian mercenaries from the Wagner PMC.
