Power supply restored in all regions of Ukraine after morning accident

On Friday morning, a system failure occurred on high-voltage lines in Ukraine, which led to cascading power outages in 7 regions. As of now, power supply has been restored in all regions, and the power system is returning to its planned operating schedules.
This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
It is noted that high-voltage lines and substations are currently operating normally, and power engineers acted as quickly as possible.
“Energy workers have restored electricity supply in all regions of Ukraine after a system failure that occurred this morning,” said Denys Shmyhal.
He reported that in the morning, 2 accidents occurred on high-voltage lines with a minute interval, which caused cascading outages in 7 regions of the country. According to the results of the inspection, the versions of a cyberattack or external interference were not confirmed.
“According to preliminary estimates, this happened due to icing of lines and equipment,” said Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the most difficult situation during the day was observed in the north, in the center of the country, in the Odessa region and in Kyiv. In the capital, 64 crews were involved in restoring electricity supply, and another 220 crews are working on restoring heating.
“Work will not stop even in the dark to restore heat and light as soon as possible,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The day before, it became known that traffic on all metro lines in Kyiv had been restored . The interval of traffic is 6 minutes.
It should be noted that on January 31, a system failure occurred in the Ukrainian power system, which left a significant part of Ukraine without power .
In particular, in Kyiv, train traffic and escalators were temporarily suspended due to a power outage in the metro . In addition, all districts of Kyiv are currently without water supply due to a power outage .
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal stated that on January 31, a technological disruption occurred between the power systems of Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, with a simultaneous power outage. This caused a cascading power outage .
