PR instead of weapons: where did the money from the reserve fund disappear to?

Do you know how much they squandered from the reserve fund this year? On PR, and not the most necessary things? Don’t you know?

Almost 20 billion hryvnias just for cashbacks and free or cheap tickets on Ukrzaliznytsia! Not for the restoration of damaged housing and infrastructure, not for helping people who lost everything – but for nonsense!

That is why, when my colleagues from European Solidarity and I saw that the government wanted to take 40 billion hryvnias from the weapons procurement program into the reserve fund, we began to do everything to prevent this from happening.

After such attacks, it seems absolutely clear that the priority is air defense. It is better to purchase air defense missiles than to later restore what enemy missiles destroy. To understand this, 40 billion is almost 200 charges for Patriot.

When we proposed to the authorities to limit spending from the reserve fund to only urgent and necessary things in the law, they categorically refused. They want to continue to waste money.

Therefore, when pro-government blogger speakers wring their hands and tell how we need to give these 40 billion to the reserve fund now, remember – the government, on the orders of the owner from Bankova, is taking money from there not for absolutely necessary things, but to buy loyalty through wasteful projects that have nothing to do with either defense or reconstruction.

On the eve of the Eurosolidarity MPs, they stated that the authorities spent the funds from the Reserve Fund for 2026 during the first quarter, and now decided to get into the pocket of the defense budget , withdrawing UAH 40 billion from it. At the same time, the MPs emphasize, the funds from the Reserve Fund were spent not on reconstruction needs, but on cashback and other populist initiatives.

In addition, the People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the European Solidarity faction, Nina Yuzhanina, reported that there was no real increase in the internal financing of the Ministry of Defense . Instead, the authorities redistributed European loan funds and cut their own defense capabilities by a huge amount.

As a reminder, the government decided to withdraw 40 billion hryvnias from the Defense Ministry’s budget , which were planned to be spent on the purchase of weapons from its own revenues. However, these plans are now under threat, despite the Cabinet’s promises to replace financing with loans.

In addition, experts express concern over the actions of the Cabinet of Ministers, which is engaged in “ questionable redistribution of funds ” between budget items. In particular, it is about the withdrawal of 40 billion hryvnias from the defense sector to the reserve fund, which may stop the increase in military salaries.
