Preparing for another war winter: why Zelensky chose Koretsky as Prime Minister

Journalists analyzed the appointment of Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine. According to the journalists, his main task will be to prepare the country’s energy system for the next military winter.

This is reported by Bloomberg .

According to journalists, Serhiy Koretsky is an energy technocrat with no Cabinet experience or political affiliations. He has spent most of his career in the private sector, mostly in energy companies.

Bloomberg notes that a key task for the new prime minister will be to strengthen Ukraine’s energy and heating infrastructure so that it can withstand Russian strikes. The publication also recalls that last winter, millions of Ukrainians were left without heating, electricity and water supply as a result of Russian attacks.

Journalists note that Koretsky has proven himself as a successful crisis manager in business and avoided the corruption allegations that have plagued Ukraine’s energy sector.

“The fact that Koretsky is a newcomer to politics is an advantage for him at this stage,” said Oleksiy Haran, professor of the Department of Political Science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

According to the political scientist, Koretsky adheres to political neutrality. “And the fact that he is unlikely to play political games is very important for the president,” he added.

In turn, People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak noted that Serhiy Koretsky is one of the few members of the government who has practical experience in various fields and has proven the ability to achieve results.

Recall that on July 16, the Verkhovna Rada appointed Serhiy Koretsky as Prime Minister of Ukraine . The corresponding decision was supported by 289 people’s deputies.

Later, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Ukraine, Serhiy Koretsky, during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, highly praised the work of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, who is considered one of the main candidates for the position of Minister of Defense. He also identified the key priorities of the renewed Cabinet of Ministers .

At the same time, newly elected Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky held his first international conversation after his appointment . The main topics of discussion were the next review of the IMF program for Ukraine and further financial support for the country.
