“Pressure on Russia must increase”: Zelenskyy’s key theses on war, sanctions, and support for Ukraine

Володимир Зеленський

During the European Council meeting in Brussels on October 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a number of important statements regarding the war, international support, and European integration.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the European Union for adopting the 19th package of sanctions against Russia and noted that the West’s sanctions pressure should become even stronger in order to force the Kremlin to sit at the negotiating table, writes “Pryamiy” .

“Russia does not want this war to end. They continue to hit schools, kindergartens, and civilians. A ceasefire is possible, but only with greater pressure on the Russian Federation,” Zelensky stressed.

The President also commented on the results of his meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump. According to him, the meeting was constructive.

“We have sanctions on Russian energy, there will be no summit in Hungary without Ukraine. And, perhaps, there will be Tomahawks soon. This is already a good result,” Zelenskyy noted.

At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine did not use long-range American weapons to strike Russian territory – only within the framework of hostilities.

Zelenskyy separately emphasized the need to use frozen Russian assets to strengthen Ukrainian defense, in particular to purchase European weapons and air defense systems. Ukraine also proposed to review the procedure for supplying Patriot systems so that countries at war receive priority.

Among other topics, the president touched on the issue of EU accession, calling the blocking of negotiation clusters “artificial and unfair.” He called on European leaders to fulfill their promises, just as Ukraine is doing.

“EU enlargement is not just politics. It is the security of all of Europe,” President Zelensky emphasized.

We also previously reported that Putin made new statements about US sanctions, the meeting with Trump, and Tomahawk . The Russian dictator said that the new US sanctions will not affect the Russian economy in any way.
