Private air defense in Ukraine: a good idea, but what is the implementation?

The possibility of granting businesses permission to purchase air defense equipment to protect their facilities is being discussed here.

Great idea, but, sorry, I don’t believe in private air defense!

Go buy yourself a short-barreled gun for self-defense legally and tell me how it works out for you.

Well, OK. We can’t freely buy a 9mm pistol and 16 rounds of ammunition for it, but we can suddenly buy a MANPADS with missiles, a 12.7mm machine gun, a 35mm anti-aircraft gun with ammunition, a couple of dozen combat drones, and an air defense battery.

Even if some private entrepreneur finds a few hundred million bucks for this, integrates his private anti-aircraft missile battery into the general air defense system and starts shooting something down.

Stop. Where will he get all this? Interceptor drones have limited functionality. So far, only against motorized shaheds.
The remaining anti-aircraft weapons require TRAINING, knowledge of tactics of use, material and technical base, and drone specialists, which are in short supply even for the army. Interceptor drones also require qualified personnel.

And if we at least make drones ourselves, then where do we get artillery, machine guns, MANPADS, SAMs, and ammunition for all of this?

That’s right. Approximately where the state takes them. From Western partners. How willingly and in what quantities some Western partners give them to us, especially those who seek to release Russian political prisoners in exchange for the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation, ask the state.

And therefore, I don’t believe it!
