The AfD came first in the regional elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to exit polls, with 37% of the vote. The SPD won 35.5% and the CDU 5.5%.

This is reported by Politico .

A victory in terms of votes does not give the AfD control of the state government, as the other major parties have ruled out a coalition with it. The SPD can retain power if it makes agreements with other parties.

This is the second notable result for the AfD in state elections in the last 2 weeks. Previously, the party received 43.8% in Saxony-Anhalt.

At the same time, the CDU received 5.5% – its worst result in state elections since the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In parallel, elections were held in Berlin, where, according to preliminary data from ARD, the Left Party took first place with 24.5%, and the CDU received about 20%.

As a reminder, the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), which opposes support for Ukraine and favors rapprochement with Russia, won the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt. However, the party fell a few seats short of an independent majority in the local parliament.

Subsequently, US President Donald Trump congratulated the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party on its victory in the elections in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.
