In the center of St. Petersburg, Polish Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski was attacked by a group of aggressive individuals who surrounded the diplomatic representative and tried to hit him.
The incident occurred on November 16, Gazeta Wyborcza reports .
Krajewski arrived in the city to meet with the local Polish community on the occasion of Poland’s Independence Day. As the ambassador and consul Jarosław Strycharski headed to the local basilica around noon, a group of protesters with anti-Polish and anti-Ukrainian posters blocked his path.
The attackers tried to attack the diplomat, but the State Security Service officers intervened in time and physically stopped the aggressors. A source in the Polish Foreign Ministry described the situation as “the most serious such incident in many years,” emphasizing that only the quick actions of the security guards prevented the ambassador from being beaten.
