Partners have contributed $1.5 billion to NATO’s PURL initiative, thanks to which Ukraine receives weapons from the United States.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

“Our new PURL defense support initiative, implemented jointly with partners, is already yielding tangible results. Today, we already have $1.5 billion. Thanks to the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List initiative, NATO member states can cooperate to procure US-made weapons for Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said.

It is known that the following joined the initiative:

  • The Netherlands with a contribution of $500 million;
  • Denmark, Norway and Sweden with a joint contribution of $500 million;
  • Germany, which contributed $500 million.

“This is truly a significant reinforcement, and I am grateful to Germany for this important step,” the President noted.

Zelensky also emphasized that every contribution within the PURL initiative is an investment in Ukraine’s ability to protect people’s lives and bring about a dignified peace.

Earlier, the Netherlands announced its readiness to make a significant contribution to the supply of Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. The country’s Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans stressed that Russia is trying to break the Ukrainian nation through massive air attacks, but international partners will not allow this plan to materialize.
