Putin and Xi Jinping met in Beijing: main statements

Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, stated that relations between Russia and China have allegedly reached an “unprecedentedly high level.”

During the talks, Putin called the cooperation between Moscow and Beijing “an example of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction.”
“Today, our relations have reached an unprecedentedly high level,” the Kremlin head said.
Putin also emphasized cooperation in the energy sector, calling it the “locomotive” of economic relations between the two countries.
“Russia remains a reliable supplier of energy resources, and China is a responsible consumer,” he said.
Separately, the Russian president mentioned the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and China, signed 25 years ago. According to him, the document still remains the basis of bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping, for his part, said that China and Russia should work together towards a “more just and equitable system of global governance.”
“China and Russia must adhere to a long-term strategic perspective,” the Chinese leader said.
He also called the current international situation “unstable and complex” and spoke in favor of an early cessation of hostilities in the Middle East.
“The resumption of war is unacceptable. It is especially important to adhere to the path of negotiations,” said Xi Jinping.
The meeting between Putin and Xi took place against the backdrop of increased cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, as well as a tense situation in the world due to wars and sanctions pressure on Russia.
