Putin cannot be trusted, he needs not a part of the territory, but the whole of Ukraine – Poroshenko
Petro Poroshenko, on air on the BBC, said that Russian dictator Putin cannot be trusted because he only does not need part of Ukrainian territory.
“First of all, we are a nation that does not trade its territory. But I want to convey to you the information that Putin does not need Ukrainian territory. Putin does not need part of Ukraine. Putin will not have geostrategic success without placing a pro-Kremlin government here in Kyiv. This is his essence. And in this situation, we cannot accept that the world should be settled at the expense of Ukraine. We believe that this would be an absolutely dangerous precedent,” Petro Poroshenko noted.
“During my presidency, the Minsk agreements, which were discussed and signed together with Putin, were not Putin’s claim to Ukrainian territory, to Ukrainian sovereignty, to Ukrainian independence,” Poroshenko recalled.
“And another principle, vitally important during this meeting – nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, nothing about Europe without Europe. I am absolutely sure that even the very fact of Putin’s meeting with Trump, if it does not bring any results, will be a great success for Putin. Because Putin will break the existing international isolation, and therefore we need this meeting with absolutely practical results of this agreement. I think that this result can be an unconditional ceasefire, not only in the air or at sea,” Petro Poroshenko believes.
“Ukraine pays the highest price for every day the ceasefire is delayed. Ukraine is the country that wants peace the most. But Trump said that if the Paths do not accept the conditions that the United States, together with Ukraine, together with the European Union and Great Britain, have proposed, there must be a plan B. Plan B means more weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, because only the Ukrainian Armed Forces are the best diplomats who can stop the Paths.”
“There must be three things: first, weapons, second, hellish sanctions, third, new financial support for Ukraine,” Poroshenko listed. He noted that Putin cannot blackmail NATO into integrating Ukraine into the Alliance. “And with the help of effective sanctions, we can stop Putin’s ability to finance the war with the most modern weapons. My message is: please, do not trust the path,” Petro Poroshenko summed up.
