Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has declared his readiness for negotiations with Volodymyr Zelensky, but refuses to recognize the current president of Ukraine as legitimate for signing any agreements.
The Kremlin leader stated this during a meeting with representatives of world news agencies, Rosmedia reports.
During his speech, Putin said that Russia allegedly does not rule out the possibility of peace talks and that he personally is “ready to meet with everyone,” including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the Kremlin leader said that Zelensky, in his opinion, does not have the legal authority to sign any international documents.
“We don’t care who is negotiating, I’m even ready to meet. But when the final stage comes… the signature must be from the legitimate authorities,” Putin said, hinting that he considers the current president of Ukraine unsuitable for concluding international agreements.
Explaining his position, Putin once again referred to the alleged provision of the Constitution of Ukraine, which allegedly states that President Zelensky’s powers have already ended.
Putin stated that Ukraine is supposedly a “presidential-parliamentary republic” in which “all bodies of government are formed by the president,” which, in his opinion, automatically calls into question the legitimacy of all Ukrainian authorities.
As a reminder, on June 14, US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin .
As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian Federation is negotiating with Ukraine exclusively as a tool to avoid increased sanctions.
