Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has said Moscow is ready for peace talks with Ukraine, but he has stressed that they must take place on terms that Russia finds acceptable.
He stated this during his speech.
According to Putin, the basis for the negotiations should be the agreements reached by the parties during the talks in Istanbul in 2022. He also mentioned the “realities on the ground”, the developments that, according to him, were discussed in Anchorage, as well as the principles outlined by him during a speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry in 2024.
“Russia, as has been repeatedly stated, is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine. We are ready to conduct them on the basis of the agreements reached in Istanbul. I see no reason to deviate from these agreements. The negotiations should also be based on the achievements discussed in Anchorage, the realities on the ground, and the principles that I outlined during my speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Putin said.
Previously, the Russian authorities have repeatedly stated their readiness for negotiations, while insisting on taking into account their own demands for a settlement of the war.
As a reminder, the Istanbul talks were held in March-April 2022. During them, the delegations of Ukraine and Russia discussed a draft peace agreement, which, in particular, provided for the issue of Ukraine’s neutral status and international security guarantees. At the same time, the parties did not reach a final agreement, and after the discovery of mass killings of civilians in Bucha, the negotiation process effectively stopped.
On the eve of the event, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky published an open letter to Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin. In it, he called on the Russian leader to end the war and proposed a personal meeting.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during a speech at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, commented on the letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, spoke about possible negotiations, the goals of the war, and attacks by Ukrainian drones on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Later, Zelensky announced that he had agreed to conduct new operations by the Security Service of Ukraine . The head of state announced the corresponding decision after the report of the SBU leadership on the results of work on the front and the special operations carried out. Also in the address, Zelensky commented on the statements of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who had previously rejected the possibility of a meeting at the level of leaders.
