Putin in isolation: how Trump’s diplomacy is hitting Russia’s allies

US President Donald Trump, according to British sources, has significantly strengthened Washington’s geopolitical position, forcing Moscow to retreat on several fronts. A series of diplomatic breakthroughs, including agreements in the Middle East and the Caucasus, have effectively limited the Kremlin’s maneuvers and weakened Vladimir Putin’s influence in the region.
This is written by The Telegraph columnist Rob Crilly, citing sources in the American administration.
“Trump’s successes in conflict resolution are inspiring him to a new initiative — an attempt to end Russia’s war against Ukraine,” the material says.
According to sources, Trump is very inspired by the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza and believes that this is confirmation of his ability to promote peaceful solutions in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia as well.
“All these deals that he was able to complete in a few months give him confidence that a way to resolve the war can be found,” an administration official was quoted as saying by Crilly.
The text emphasizes that peace agreements in regions close to Russia or dependent on routes controlled by Russia undermine Moscow’s influence. This is especially true of the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, signed at the White House in August: now the parties are less dependent on routes passing through Russian territory or under its control.
Crilly notes that Moscow has long exploited conflicts in these regions — supplying weapons, intervening as a peacemaker or an agent of a two-way game. Now, such opportunities are rapidly narrowing.
As Stefan Gedlund, director of the Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University, emphasizes, “the Kremlin’s position as a regional hegemon is weakening.”
The Kremlin is also facing weakening partners in the Middle East. The mounting losses of Hamas and Hezbollah in the conflict with Israel, as well as the massive losses of the Syrian regime, have undermined the influence of Iran, Moscow’s key ally in the region.
Russia’s attempt to assert its importance through the Russia-Arab States summit in Moscow was unsuccessful: the event was postponed due to the reluctance of many leaders to participate, which Krilly interprets as a sign of the Kremlin’s isolation.
The article emphasizes that it is precisely the combination of these diplomatic victories achieved in the first months of the Trump administration that is contributing to the weakening of Moscow’s positions in key regions. “He has cornered Putin,” says one of the interlocutors close to the White House.
As reported, US President Donald Trump said he is optimistic about the prospects for peace in Ukraine – especially after the successful hostage exchange in the Middle East.
Recall that relations between Kyiv and Washington have noticeably warmed up after the Ukrainian side realized that the US administration is now focused on Donald Trump . Ukrainian officials are demonstrating a new confidence that they largely attribute to the US president.
By the way, United States Vice President J.D. Vance said that the Kremlin has a distorted view of real events on the front and is inclined to exaggerate its achievements in the war against Ukraine.
