U.S. Senator Roger Wicker delivered a speech in support of Ukraine and harsh criticism of Vladimir Putin on the Senate floor, saying the Kremlin’s actions demonstrate a lack of interest in real peace talks.
This is reported by “European Truth” .
Speaking on the Senate floor, Republican Senator Roger Wicker urged people not to trust Vladimir Putin’s peace promises, saying Russia was continuing to escalate the war, including through massive airstrikes.
“He recently launched the largest airstrike in the history of the conflict and has repeatedly demonstrated that he is not interested in peace negotiations. In contrast, in the past few weeks, the United States, Ukraine, and our European friends have developed a common position for negotiations based on several key principles,” said Roger Wicker.
The senator emphasized the need for unity between the United States, Europe, and Ukraine, and also called for remembering who the negotiations are being conducted with.
“Putin is unrepentant. He has always been and always will be a KGB agent. He is a dictator with decades of bloodshed on his hands. He is the greatest thief in the history of the world. A war criminal who should now be behind bars. And, of course, Putin is a liar. When Vladimir Putin smiles, he acts like our friend and pretends that we believe he is our friend,” Roger Wicker emphasized.
He added that there is no reason to respond with confidence to the Kremlin’s actions.
“There’s no reason to smile back at Putin,” said Roger Wicker.
The senator also cited survey data showing that 70% of Americans do not believe that Vladimir Putin will abide by any peace agreement with Ukraine.
“He is made of the same stuff as terrorists around the world and terrorists throughout history. Terrorists are Putin’s friends. Don’t forget that, although sometimes it’s not covered as well as it should be,” Roger Wicker noted.
Separately, the senator stated that Ukraine will continue to resist Russian aggression, as the alternative is the destruction of statehood.
“We must stand with Ukraine and continue to help our friends. We must send a clear signal that Putin will not be able to simply wait us out,” said Roger Wicker.
He also called on President Donald Trump to help strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and its long-range strike capabilities.
“This will help show Putin that his military goals are unattainable,” added Roger Wicker.
It is worth adding that, according to the assessments of the US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, after the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in France, there has been significant progress in resolving the war in Ukraine .
Earlier, the Ukrainian and French presidents and the British Prime Minister signed a declaration of intent regarding the future deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine.
By the way, officials from some European countries hope to deploy up to 30,000 peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of the deployment of a foreign contingent after the ceasefire.
As is known, the draft communiqué of the Coalition of the Willing meeting states that the United States will help ensure a ceasefire in Ukraine through intelligence and logistics.
