Putin is being liquidated in Mariupol: how did the Ukrainian underground greet the Russian dictator?
The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Special Operations Forces have released a short film, “Payback,” which centers on the assassination of the Russian president in temporarily occupied Mariupol.
According to the authors, this operation is carried out by members of the Ukrainian Resistance Movement.
The film is a direct response to the cynical “restoration” of the Mariupol Drama Theater—a building destroyed by Russian troops in 2022, along with the civilians sheltering there from the bombings. Amid the ruins of this tragedy, the occupiers attempt to create the illusion of “peaceful life,” while the Ukrainian underground reminds us that retribution is inevitable.
One of the film’s key characters is a musician whose resistance begins with the dream of singing in Ukrainian again in a liberated city. His image is a composite portrait of thousands of Ukrainians on TOT, whose lives were divided into “before” and “after” the Russian occupation. He is played by Maryan Pyrog, founder of the “Pyrog and Knut” project.
“What do we care about darkness, what do we care about sadness? We go against the grain…”—they note in the description of the new film “Payback,” quoting the famous poetry of Nikolai Khvylovy. “Payback is inevitable and inescapable.”
Besides Pyrog, other famous Ukrainian artists took part in the filming: Oleksandr Khomenko from MUR, Renie Cares, Serhiy Zhadan, Oleksandr Remez, and others.
The film was produced in collaboration with the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter” and the Cultural Forces of Ukraine.
Reference: A resistance movement is a civil movement directed against occupying forces, the goal of which is to liberate territories from occupation and restore state sovereignty. The resistance movement encompasses various forms of struggle: active military action, nonviolent methods, intelligence gathering, information and psychological operations, and the creation of a resistance network. More information about the resistance movement can be found in the Law of Ukraine “On the Fundamentals of National Resistance,” which came into effect on January 1, 2022.
More videos about the Resistance Movement are available on the Special Operations Forces YouTube channel: “Domkrat,” “Cyber Underground,” “Raven-Avenger,” “Teacher,” and “Dentist.” The films are based on real underground TOT operations.
