Petro Poroshenko explained on the “Pryamiy” TV channel what Ukraine should do after the statements of Putin’s henchmen about “Russia’s withdrawal from the negotiation process.” He emphasized that Putin never wanted peace, so he can only be forced through force.
This is reported by “European Solidarity” .
“We must be realists – Putin never wanted peace, Putin never even allowed a ceasefire. No one in the world wants the end of the war and the coming of peace as much as we, Ukrainians. But we must have a key tool for peace to happen. And this is not a negotiating group. Our main argument for ending the war is the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Their power, technological capabilities, staffing, their support,” Poroshenko believes.
He emphasized that it is extremely important that the initiative, for which the “EU” fought for three years, has finally been supported, so that military taxes, including military levies, go exclusively to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“During the first meeting of Eurosolidarity with government officials in seven years, we finally reached an agreement, and our proposal for changes in the legislation was supported, that the money from the military levy goes exclusively to the needs of the Armed Forces. I think that we will be able to do the same with military bonds. This will make it possible to increase not only the monetary support, which has not been increased for four years, but also the technological advantage of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the Russians. This will be the most powerful motivation for Putin to end the war. And we will not need to persuade Ushakov, or Lavrov, or Peskov to return and sit down at the negotiating table. They will have no other choice,” Poroshenko believes.
The fifth president added that he believes in the ability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to provide just such a response to Russia’s desire to continue the war. He also believes in the effectiveness of coordinated actions by our partners, because then Ukraine will not care whether Russia wants to continue peace negotiations or not.
He also emphasizes the need to restore effective communication with the United States: “We need professional diplomats to help professional military personnel. So that in the event that Russia rejects the offer of the entire civilized world, we have very carefully calculated sanctions. When will the ships of the shadow fleet be stopped, when will the oil refineries and defense industry plants of the Russian Federation be destroyed, when will the price that Russia deserves for continuing the war be paid.”
Poroshenko listed the steps that Ukraine’s Western allies should take.
“The first principle that we have introduced since 2014 is ‘nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.’ Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine. It is absolutely unacceptable when, for example, Russia and the United States discuss the issue of ending the war in Ukraine without Ukraine. This is a defeat for Ukraine, this is a defeat for Ukrainian diplomacy, this is a defeat for the Ukrainian authorities. And we definitely must not allow this,” Poroshenko said.
The second position, which was voiced at all European venues, including the Munich Security Conference, is “nothing about Europe without Europe.”
“Nothing about Europe without Europe. The European Union, as our partner, which is primarily interested in ending the war and ensuring a stable security situation on the continent, must be a direct participant in the peace negotiations,” the fifth President is convinced.
The third position is NATO’s position. And the United States of America, as a prominent representative of NATO, should also be a direct participant in these negotiations.
“Of course, we will be interested in those countries that can effectively influence this process, in particular, for example, China, stopping the supply of components to the Russian defense industry. Its participation will also ensure an increase in the efficiency of the negotiation process,” Poroshenko believes.
He emphasized that China, Brazil, South Africa, and the whole world should stand with Ukraine.
“I believe that we have enough intelligence, desire, and unity. Because we need transatlantic unity, unity within the European Union, and very important unity within Ukrainian society. Unity was the factor that played an extremely positive role since February 24, 1922, and now it is very important,” Poroshenko recalled.
According to the EU leader, first of all, we must demand a complete and comprehensive ceasefire from Russia: “we should not discuss some secret fantasies of the Russians in the form of 28 points, which they convey now through Vitkoff, now through Dmitriev, now through Yermak. Our position is an unconditional, comprehensive ceasefire. What we did in 2014-2015 when concluding the Minsk agreements.”
“First, cease fire, cease hostilities, stop killing Ukrainians and shelling peaceful Ukrainian cities. And after that, we sit down and carefully discuss security guarantees, peacekeepers, the necessary components to prevent this from happening again, but this is done in conditions where there are no hostilities. I am convinced that such logic, such a position will definitely be supported not only by European partners, not only by the United States of America, but also by China,” the fifth President believes.
He noted that Putin needs war because it is his way of existence.
“And war is needed, unfortunately, by corrupt circles inside Ukraine, these circles of Mindich, all his henchmen, his representatives who were on the NABU records in the Cabinet of Ministers, in the parliament, in the President’s Office. And the sooner they are stripped of their positions, the sooner they find themselves in the dock, the closer we will be to peace,” the party leader emphasizes.
Poroshenko noted that there is no more important task now than securing the Armed Forces, ensuring internal unity, and involving allies and interested parties in peace negotiations.
“Then the Russians simply will not be able to say that they are ignoring or not participating in this process. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about,” the fifth president summed up.
By the way, the European Union is studying the possibility of establishing a direct channel of negotiations with the Kremlin so as not to be left out of the peace process regarding the war in Ukraine.
As previously reported, Russia’s new statements regarding the terms of peace negotiations indicate that the Kremlin has no intention of ending the war even if control over Donbas is established.
