Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, through US President Donald Trump, has offered Volodymyr Zelensky a meeting in Moscow. The offer came amid international efforts to bring peace, but the Ukrainian president rejected it.

This is reported by BFMTV with reference to Agence France Presse.

According to journalists, on August 18, during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, Putin suggested considering Moscow as a possible venue for a summit with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The conversation between the leaders of the US and Russia took place against the backdrop of negotiations in Washington, where Zelensky, together with his European partners, discussed with Trump ways to end the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

Sources familiar with the negotiations told reporters that Zelenskyy rejected the offer. According to them, the Ukrainian president was at the White House at the time, where he was holding a dialogue with allies on security guarantees and further actions in the context of international pressure on the Kremlin.

It is worth adding that Moscow’s initiative came against the backdrop of attempts by the US and European leaders to find a formula for resolving the war. However, official Kyiv has repeatedly stressed that negotiations are possible only on condition of the withdrawal of Russian troops and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

It was previously reported that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin could take place in the coming weeks . According to European diplomatic sources, Hungary is being considered as a potential venue for the talks.

As a reminder, multilateral talks involving US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and leaders of key European countries have concluded in Washington. The central topic of the discussions was the prospect of ending the war in Ukraine and launching a new peace process initiated by Washington.
