Kremlin President Vladimir Putin stated during a press conference on May 9 that the war against Ukraine was supposedly “coming to an end.” At the same time, the Russian authorities continue to demonstrate their readiness for further hostilities and put forward new ultimatums.

This was reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that during his conversation with journalists, Putin commented on the long-range strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory and tried to present the situation as one that is nearing completion.

“The matter is coming to an end,” said Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, experts emphasize that the Russian authorities are not demonstrating any real steps towards ending the war . According to analysts, Russian state media used Putin’s statement to create the impression that the conflict is supposedly close to an end.

ISW also drew attention to the Kremlin’s statements regarding possible negotiations with Ukraine. Putin once again repeated his demand for a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow.

“Any bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy should take place in Moscow,” the Kremlin leader said.

Analysts believe that such rhetoric is aimed primarily at Russia’s domestic audience . ISW notes that after a long war, Russian society is increasingly feeling its consequences, in particular through Ukrainian strikes on facilities on Russian territory.

In addition, experts attribute the absence of a significant amount of heavy equipment at the parade in Moscow to Russia’s desire to conserve resources for further combat operations at the front.

By the way, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he is ready to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky not only in Moscow, but also in a third country. At the same time, the Kremlin leader said that such a meeting is possible only for the purpose of signing an agreement.

As “Pryamiy” reported, the day before, Ukraine announced its readiness to hold a meeting at the highest level with Russia with the participation of international partners. This is a format of negotiations involving the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey, and, probably, the United States.

Subsequently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced his intention to holdtrilateral talks with the participation of the United States and Russia on the territory of Azerbaijan .

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said that Vladimir Putin is ready for a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky , but it must be meaningful and productive. It clarified that the Russian dictator does not rule out the possibility of negotiations and is ready to hold a meeting in Moscow at any time.
