Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin said that Russia will deploy medium-range missiles and is abandoning the moratorium.
He said this during an operational meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council.
“Russia has repeatedly spoken about problems in the field of strategic stability, proposed solutions, but was not heard,” the dictator believes.
He also added that after the expiration of the agreement between the Russian Federation and the United States on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive arms — February 5, 2026 — the Kremlin will adhere to the restrictions for another year.
Putin is convinced that a complete rejection of the treaty would be a mistake, as it could help establish a dialogue with the United States.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the Russian Federation does not consider itself a country bound by the moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range ground-based missiles.
As a reminder, the American Institute for the Study of War reported that the Kremlin is deliberately creating the basis for breaking international arms control agreements , trying to prepare for a possible large-scale confrontation with NATO.
