The Kremlin has only 12-18 months of funds left for the war against Ukraine, according to Russian foreign policy expert Alexander Gabuyev, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Berlin Center.

This is reported by Bild.

He believes that time is against Putin, and tightening sanctions could further shorten this period.

Gabuyev explained that Donald Trump wants to end the war, but is not putting pressure on Putin yet, so Moscow is confident that it can drag out the negotiations. The Kremlin continues to make unrealistic demands and does not plan to give up on them.

According to the expert, Western countries should apply existing sanctions much more strictly and not allow China, India, or the UAE to circumvent them by purchasing Russian oil. This must be done daily and consistently.

If Ukraine continues to receive weapons and financial assistance, the duration of the war can be reduced to less than 18 months, Gabuyev is confident.

At the same time, German military analyst Carlo Massala urges caution in such predictions. In a comment to Bild, he said that no one can currently accurately assess what financial and political resources Russia is able to mobilize or will want to mobilize.

It was previously reported that the European Union may adopt the 20th package of sanctions against Russia as early as January 2025, but active negotiations will begin only after the New Year holidays.

Recall that nearly 48 million barrels of Russian oil could be stuck at sea for a long time due to new US sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil.
