Thanks to revolutionary advances in biotechnology, from cell regeneration to artificial intelligence, science is beginning to open the door to eternal, or at least extremely long, life.

Futurists and investors are aiming to overcome physical aging, and a hidden snippet of a conversation between the leaders of China, Russia, and North Korea at a military parade caused a real sensation – they talked about the possibility of achieving immortality.

Biologists explore the secrets of longevity by observing long-lived animal species—those that don’t age, such as jellyfish, which can regenerate forever.

Genetic research is opening up tools for life extension: CRISPR/Cas9 has been shown to extend lifespan by 50% in mice and 10-fold in nematodes. Some scientists see the potential for immortality in increasing telomerase activity, although this also opens the door to cancer.

Investment in biotechnology to extend healthy lives has increased dramatically: in 2024 it exceeded $8.5 billion, and by 2025 it could reach $9.8 billion.

Aging is increasingly being viewed as a reversible process — thanks in part to research from companies such as:

  • Altos Labs aims to stop or even reverse the aging process by working with stem cells.
  • Genflow Biosciences is developing SIRT6-based gene therapy to maintain cellular youth.
  • Initiatives like Immortal Dragons are funding startups in radical life extension — from 3D bioprinting organs to whole-body replacement.

The concept of longevity escape velocity is also being actively developed , a strategy where medicine adds more life than it takes away with age. Ray Kurzweil predicts this milestone will be reached by 2035, and de Grey and Jean Sinclair believe that the first person to live to 150 has already been born.

Despite the progress, critics warn that without radical breakthroughs in medicine and bioengineering, it will be impossible to repeat the record-breaking increase in life expectancy of the 20th century. There are also psychological and social consequences: do we really want such a life if the sense of pace is lost?

With the advent of the “technological singularity” and the integration of artificial intelligence into human biology, we may be able to transfer consciousness into the digital space or merge it with machines.

It is worth adding that during a noisy military parade in Beijing , an accidental “hot mic” recording captured Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un talking about the extraordinary possibilities of biotechnology.

“Human organs can be transplanted all the time. The longer you live, the younger you become and you can even achieve immortality,” Putin’s translator said.

“Some predict that in this century, people could live to be 150 years old,” Xi replied.

It was a real sensation – to say such a thing to the sound of a national parade dedicated to a historic event – unexpected and provocative. The audio recording, although short, became an illustration of how far thoughts and technology have advanced in the search for longevity.

As a reminder, one of the largest military parades in recent years was held in Beijing, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II.
