Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are trying to convince Donald Trump to find a way out of the US-Israeli war against Iran.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to the newspaper’s sources, Doha and Abu Dhabi have intensified contacts with allies to prevent further escalation and a weeks-long conflict in the region. The Gulf countries fear a prolonged price shock in energy markets.
Bloomberg notes that the prospect of a large-scale regional war looks critical for US allies in the region, in particular Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar.
Gulf states are wary of chaos, disruptions to air travel and a hit to the tourism sector. An escalation could also scare away foreign investors and cause losses to national economies.
Amid the escalation, global fuel prices have risen sharply and stock markets have plummeted.
It was previously reported that after the war began, QatarEnergy suspended production of liquefied natural gas at the world’s largest export facility following military attacks .
As a reminder, the largest oil refinery in Saudi Arabia has stopped operating after a drone strike.
