Rada supported Poroshenko’s appeal to the world regarding the murder of Andriy Parubiy

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a resolution on appealing to parliaments, governments and international organizations in connection with the murder of people’s deputy, former Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy.

As it became known from the broadcasts of the people’s deputies, 296 people’s deputies voted “for”.

The MPs also demand that an immediate, transparent and effective investigation into the murder be conducted, with the involvement of international experts if necessary.

The explanatory note to the document, the main author of which is Petro Poroshenko (co-chairman of “European Solidarity”), notes that “this crime is an act of political terror organized by the Russian Federation.” The authors of the document emphasize that the crime is directed against Ukrainian statehood and democracy, and its goal is to destabilize the situation in the country.

Considering Parubiy’s patriotic activities – from his participation in the national democratic movement of the 1980s and 1990s, leadership on the Maidan, to the creation of the National Guard and consistent defense of Ukraine’s sovereignty in the post of Chairman of Parliament – in the resolution the MPs call on the international community:

• Condemn the act of political terror as part of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.
• Honor the memory of Andriy Parubiy and all victims of Russian aggression with a minute of silence.
• Increase political, economic and sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.
• Provide Ukraine with additional security assistance to counter terrorist attacks.

In addition, the document contains a requirement for Ukrainian law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate, transparent and effective investigation into the murder, if necessary, with the involvement of international experts.

Let us recall that on August 30 , public and political figure Andriy Parubiy was killed in Lviv .

It later became known that a shooter who killed the current member of parliament from European Solidarity and former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy is being sought in the Lviv region . A photo of the alleged killer is being published online.

Later, journalists reported that deputy Andriy Parubiy was shot 8 times by a man disguised as a courier.
