US President Donald Trump said that he discussed the possibility of nuclear disarmament during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the Russian leader allegedly expressed a willingness to move in this direction, and China may also join the process.
Trump stated this during a conversation with reporters at the White House, CNN reports.
Trump stressed that the issue of denuclearization is one of the key issues in his negotiations with Putin, and that the spread of nuclear weapons must be stopped.
“One of the things we’re trying to do with Russia and China is denuclearization. It’s very important. I discussed it with President Putin, and not only that,” Trump said.
He also added that he considers disarmament “a very big game,” and expressed confidence that China may also be willing to engage in such a process.
“We cannot allow nuclear weapons to spread. We must stop nuclear weapons,” the politician concluded.
As a reminder, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that during joint military exercises with Russia, it is planned to practice scenarios for the use of nuclear weapons, as well as the latest Oreshnik system . According to him, this is an important element of strategic deterrence in the face of growing tension on the country’s western and northern borders.
As reported, France has suggested that in five years, by 2030, Russia could become a “real threat” to Europe.
By the way, China has significantly accelerated the pace of expansion of its nuclear arsenal, actively building up its potential on land, in the air and at sea. Despite Beijing’s official statements about the “no first use” policy, experts and the US military warn that such modernization may indicate intentions to use nuclear weapons in crisis situations, in particular, in the event of a threat of defeat in the Taiwan Strait.
