More than two hundred Kenyans are fighting on Russia’s side in the war against Ukraine, and diplomats estimate the number is growing. The government says recruitment networks are active in both Kenya and Russia.

This was reported by Reuters, citing the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The agency notes that Russian intermediaries promise applicants up to $18,000 to cover visa, travel and accommodation costs, but in practice many recruits face fraud. The Kenyan embassy in Moscow has already documented injuries among those recruited in this way.

In September, Kenyan security forces conducted a raid near Nairobi and rescued 21 citizens who were being prepared to be sent to the front.

The ministry emphasizes that the rescued were misled about the nature of their future work: they were told about non-combat positions – assembling drones, working with chemicals, and painting, but were actually being prepared to participate in combat operations.

It was previously reported that the Russian Federation is actively recruiting foreign mercenaries to participate in the war against Ukraine.

As a reminder, the administration of US President Donald Trump has launched a diplomatic campaign at the UN calling on allies to isolate Cuba due to its participation in the war against Ukraine.
