Relentless frosts and snowfalls: forecast for the end of the year and the New Year

In late December and early January, Ukraine will experience real winter weather with frost and snow.

This was reported by the head of the meteorological forecast department of the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, Natalia Golenya, UNIAN reports.

According to her, the transition to winter temperature conditions will begin on December 24. “Negative values, that is, frosts, will prevail both during the day and at night,” the expert noted.

The frosts will be caused by the arrival of cold Arctic air from the northern regions of Europe and even from the White Sea. This process will continue next week, including the New Year holidays. “The average daily temperature at the beginning of the new year will remain below zero, which means a real winter,” Golenya added.

The lowest temperatures are expected this week: at night from −3° to −10°, on the Left Bank in places −10…−12°, and with clearings, −15° is possible. The daytime temperature will range from 0° to −6°, in the east and northeast to −9…−10°.

As for snow, minor precipitation is possible on December 23, but snow should not be expected on December 24-25, during the transition to frost. “Starting from the 26th until the end of the year and in early January, atmospheric fronts will arrive from the northwest, which will bring light to moderate snow and the formation of snow cover,” the meteorologist explained.

At first, the thickness of the snow cover will be 1–8 cm, later in places the snow may reach 10–15 cm.
