Replenishment of stocks before winter: Great Britain transfers a batch of Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine
The UK has delivered another batch of Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine, which can be used to strike Russia. The delivery will boost the Defence Forces’ ability to carry out long-range precision strikes ahead of winter.
This is reported by Bloomberg .
The United Kingdom has decided to transfer additional arms supplies to Ukraine. As part of this decision, another batch of Storm Shadow missiles has arrived.
The report states that the exact number of missiles transferred is not disclosed. At the same time, it is emphasized that Storm Shadow has already been used by the Ukrainian military to strike Russia.
Journalists point out that the supply is interpreted as strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities before winter. The material states that the missiles can be used to strike targets inside Russia.
The Storm Shadow missile is a long-range aircraft cruise missile designed for pinpoint strikes on strategic targets. It has the following characteristics:
- The length of the rocket is about 5.10 meters .
- Weight is approximately 1,300 kilograms.
- The diameter of the body is about 0.48 meters .
- Wingspan is approximately 3 meters .
- Warhead — approximately 450 kg (version with a multi-stage charging system of the BROACH type) for defeating fortified targets.
- Flight range exceeds 250 kilometers , depending on the modification and launch conditions.
- Propulsion — turbojet engine, subsonic speed, approximately Mach 0.8.
- Guidance and control system: combined inertial system (INS), GPS, Terrain Reference Navigation, and a thermal imaging final guidance channel for target confirmation before detonation.
- The flight is carried out at low altitude, which helps to avoid detection by air defense systems.
- The main purpose is to destroy high-value stationary targets – bunkers, command posts, storage facilities, and military-industrial infrastructure facilities.
- The missile can be integrated with various carrier aircraft (e.g. Eurofighter Typhoon, Dassault Rafale, Panavia Tornado) depending on the owner country.
Due to its combination of long range, high accuracy, and ability to fly at low altitudes with low radar signature, Storm Shadow is seen as an effective means of carrying out strikes at long distances from the front line.
Recall that on October 21, the Air Force, together with the Ground Forces, the Navy, and other components of the Defense Forces, attacked the Bryansk Chemical Plant. The combined strike was carried out using Storm Shadow air-launched missiles that overcame the Russian air defense system.
It was previously reported that the United Kingdom and France allowed Ukraine to use the transferred Storm Shadow/SCALP for strikes against the Russian Federation .
By the way, the UK Ministry of Defense handed over a batch of hundreds of air defense missiles to Ukraine five months earlier than the scheduled delivery schedule.
