Rescue operations completed in Ternopil after Russian shelling: 33 people killed, 94 more injured

Search and rescue operations have been completed in Ternopil following the Russian attack that occurred on November 19. Rescuers worked at two locations where the strike destroyed buildings and trapped people.

This was reported by the press service of the State Emergency Service.

It is noted that search and rescue operations in Ternopil, which began after the Russian strike on November 19, lasted 4 days and ended on November 22 at 6:00 p.m. Specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine worked at two sites of destruction, one of which was an apartment building that suffered significant damage. Some residents were trapped under rubble or were locked in their apartments.

The SES units extinguished fires, dismantled destroyed structures, and searched for people simultaneously. Rescuers from 9 regions, dog handlers, medics, psychologists, and heavy equipment were involved in the work. Some of the tasks were performed manually at the level of 5–6 floors due to the difficulty of access to the destroyed structures.

According to official figures, 33 people were killed, including 6 children. 94 people were injured, including 18 children.

46 people were rescued, including 7 children. As of the completion of the work, 6 people, including 1 child, are still missing.

In addition, rescuers found and returned to their owners 3 pets — 2 cats and a parrot. In total, about 1,298 tons of construction debris were removed from the site of the destruction. Search and rescue operations have officially ended, and investigative actions are ongoing.

It was previously reported that rescuers from the State Emergency Service discovered the body of another person under the rubble of a house destroyed by a Russian missile strike in Ternopil .

The day before, it became known that 10 people, including one child, are missing in Ternopil after the Russian attack on November 19.

As a reminder, on the night of November 19, Russian troops carried out a series of strikes on the western regions of Ukraine , in particular on Ternopil and Lviv regions.
