Residents of Kyiv region noticed a rare natural phenomenon
A rare natural phenomenon – a lunar halo – was observed in the sky over the Kyiv region on the evening of January 30.
This is reported by social media users.
The lunar halo appears as a large, bright ring around the Moon. It is caused by the refraction of light by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
Experts explain that the combination of a bright Moon and thin clouds of ice particles is necessary for this phenomenon to occur. It is under these conditions that the light forms the characteristic light circle.
In favorable weather, a bright lunar halo can be seen in Ukraine approximately 10-20 times a year.
