EU ambassadors approved a new, eighteenth package of sanctions against Russia.

This was announced by Kaia Kallas, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

This package focuses on lowering the maximum price for Russian oil, as well as adding to the sanctions list more than a hundred vessels that are part of the Russian Federation’s so-called “shadow fleet” – ships that help circumvent international restrictions.

“We are increasing pressure on the Kremlin’s financial resources, continuing to block key channels of its military budget. 105 new vessels and their accomplices have been added to the list,” Kallas said.

In addition, the new package includes restrictions for a number of Russian banks on access to external financing, although the specific names of the institutions are not disclosed at this time.

Important attention is paid to gas infrastructure – the sanctions also affect the Nord Stream pipeline, through which gas exports to Europe could resume.

Some Chinese banks may also be subject to sanctions, which, according to the EU, contribute to circumventing the imposed restrictions.

“We are not only limiting Russia’s military capabilities, but also combating those who help it – in particular, Chinese financial institutions and the supply of technology for the production of drones,” the EU representative added.

The new package also, for the first time, affects the register of ship flags and Rosneft’s largest oil refinery in India, which is important for international control over Russian exports.

As a reminder, Malta agreed to lift its veto on the European Union’s 18th sanctions package against Russia.

As reported, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that his country would unblock the adoption of the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
