Water on schedule, even of poor quality: Ukraine is on the brink of a serious crisis

Ukraine may face a water crisis in the next 10 years. In some cities of the country, water will be supplied on a schedule.
This was stated by the head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development, Serhiy Sukhomlyn.
He noted that the most critical situation could be in the south of the country – in particular in the Odessa region.
Sukhomlyn also added that Ukraine ranks 23rd-24th in the world in terms of water supply, and last in Europe.
Ukraine receives most of its drinking water from rivers that do not originate on its territory. 74% of river water is transit. In particular, the water supply of the Odessa region depends on the Dniester
Sukhomlin notes that in the event of changes, transit water may disappear or decrease.
“If the water situation in the upper reaches worsens, the upstream regions will primarily provide for themselves,” the official noted.
He specifically drew attention to the rapid depletion of groundwater in the country. Rainwater no longer has time to replenish aquifers.
Sukhomlin stated that to truly solve water supply problems, it is necessary to create a single national water resources management center.
By the way, recently in Ukraine we have begun to observe a trend of small rivers drying up . At the same time, large ones are becoming low-flowing.
