Armed Forces of Ukraine Eye Robot Revolution: Infantry Set for Radical Overhaul
In Ukraine, military units are actively using robotic systems on the battlefield, replacing infantry in the most dangerous areas of the front. Over the past 3 months, robots and drones have completed more than 22,000 missions, saving soldiers’ lives.
This is reported by CNN.
According to the material, the Ukrainian military is already using ground robots and drones to conduct combat missions, including assaults and deterrence operations against the enemy.
The commander of the “NC13” unit of the 3rd separate assault brigade, Mykola Zinkevych, stated that one example of the use of such technologies occurred in the summer, when an enemy position was taken without infantry participation.
“We must understand that we will never have more personnel and we will never have a numerical advantage over the enemy. So, we need to achieve this advantage with the help of technology,” said Mykola Zinkevich.
The article also notes that ground-based drones have already become a regular feature of combat operations. In particular, one robot with a machine gun was able to hold back the advance of Russian troops for 45 days.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the scale of technology use on the front lines.
“Lives were saved more than 22,000 times when a robot entered the most dangerous areas instead of a soldier,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Separately, it is reported that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is considering creating a so-called “destruction zone” at a depth of 15-20 km along the front line, with maximum automation of processes.
At the same time, the military emphasizes the need for human control when using new technologies.
“The final decision should always be made by a person. Would you entrust weapons to artificial intelligence? How can we be sure that it will be able to distinguish friend from foe?” said Mykola Zinkevich.
According to him, despite technological advances, preserving the lives of military personnel remains key.
“Human life is priceless, while robots don’t bleed,” he concluded.
By the way, Ukraine has received 2 Phantom MK-1 humanoid robots to evaluate their effectiveness in combat conditions. The robots are planned to be used primarily to perform reconnaissance missions on the front line.
Recall that the ground robot of the Third Army Corps independently held its position at the front for a month and a half and restrained attacks by Russian troops without the participation of infantry.
