Disney director and screenwriter Roger Allers has died at the age of 76. His death was confirmed by visual effects industry veteran and longtime studio collaborator Dave Bossert.

“I am deeply saddened by the news that our friend Roger Allers has departed for his next journey. We corresponded by email last week while he was traveling in Egypt, which makes this loss all the more surreal. Roger was an incredibly talented artist and director, a true pillar of the Disney animation renaissance,” said Dave Bossert.

Roger Allers co-directed The Lion King with Rob Minkoff, which was released in 1994 and became one of Disney’s most successful films.

According to the report, the original Lion King grossed $771 million worldwide. The 2019 remake became one of the highest-grossing films of all time, grossing $1.6 billion.

Roger Allers has also worked on other animation projects, including directing the film Open Season and the Oscar-nominated short film The Little Match Girl.

In addition to directing, Allers was involved as a screenwriter and story developer on such Disney films as “Aladdin”, “The Emperor’s New Adventures”, “Brother Bear” and two parts of “The Lion King”.

Disney CEO Bob Iger also expressed his condolences over the director’s death, noting his contributions to shaping an era of animation that continues to inspire audiences around the world.

Roger Allers was born in 1949 in the United States of America. He began his career in the animation industry in the late 1970s and later became one of the key figures in the Disney animation renaissance.

Allers joined Disney as an artist and writer, where he worked on story and character development for animated films. Throughout his career, he established himself as a director and storyboard artist, focusing on classical drama and emotional storytelling.

Roger Allers gained the greatest fame as the co-director of the animated film “The Lion King”, which was released in 1994. The film became one of the most successful in the history of the Disney studio and received international recognition.

Allers was considered by his peers to be one of the directors who shaped Disney’s style and approach to animation in the 1990s. His contributions to the development of animated film remain significant to the industry and audiences around the world.
