The Ukrainian confectionery industry is increasingly reaching international levels. Producers are winning awards at competitions, and their sweets are sold in many countries.

Mars has become the world’s leading confectionery company, with revenues of $20 billion. Meanwhile, Ukrainian confectionery manufacturer Roshen, with revenues of $1.5 billion, has entered the top 20 companies globally, according to the financial and economic media outlet KHRE Invest. Roshen’s average annual growth is approximately 4%, despite the martial law and general problems in the global chocolate market. Futures prices exceeded $10,000 per ton for the first time in history.

Following Mars, Ferrero Group and Mondelez International became market leaders. The former shifted its strategy toward aggressive expansion through the acquisition of smaller businesses and investments in nuts, particularly hazelnuts. Companies like Nestlé and Mondelēz have also begun revising their product formulas and are seeking alternatives to expensive cocoa butter. Nevertheless, chocolate still holds the largest share of the global confectionery market, accounting for approximately 58-60%.

Despite the crisis conditions at the beginning of the war and in 2023-2024, the Ukrainian corporation Roshen managed to increase exports to EU countries by 20%.
