Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen has announced plans to verify whether weapons funded by European countries for Ukraine are being delivered as intended, amid reports that some military aid may be redirected to other regions.
This is reported by Euronews.
According to the minister, Helsinki will check whether Washington is complying with contracts with European NATO member states regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
The question arose after journalists reported that the Pentagon was considering redirecting some of the military equipment intended for the Ukrainian Defense Forces to the war with Iran.
This concerns, in particular, air defense systems purchased through the NATO PURL mechanism, which allows alliance countries to purchase weapons from the United States for Ukraine.
In addition, the Finnish side stated that it does not support involvement in a war over Iran and will not allow the use of resources in such a context.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb stressed that the US and Israel’s war against Iran is not NATO’s responsibility, as the alliance is defensive in nature.
By the way, the Pentagon is considering the possibility of redirecting some of the weapons that were planned to be transferred to Ukraine to the Middle East due to the depletion of ammunition stocks.
At the same time, the administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to accelerate billions of dollars in arms sales to Middle Eastern countries, using an emergency decision mechanism to bypass Congress.
Recall that against the backdrop of the third week of the US military operation against Iran, allies are pressuring President Donald Trump to explain the goals and timing of the conflict. At the same time, according to sources, the White House is not providing allies with detailed information about further war plans.
