Russia admits for the first time that the cruiser Moskva was destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The Second Western District Military Court in Moscow recognized for the first time that the cruiser Moskva was destroyed as a result of the actions of the Ukrainian military.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to “Mediazona”.

According to the publication, the court’s press service deleted the news about the verdict shortly after publication, but the text of the document was preserved.

In its verdict, the court found Andriy Shubin, commander of the 406th Artillery Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy, “guilty” of sinking the cruiser. The Russian side claims that he allegedly gave orders to launch missile strikes on the ship, which sank on April 14, 2022 near Zmiiniy Island.

The court decision also charged Shubin with the destruction of the frigate Admiral Essen on April 2, 2022. The court decided to recover 2.2 billion rubles from him, which is about $28.4 million.

The court’s press release noted that as a result of the explosion, fire, and smoke on the cruiser Moskva, 20 crew members died, another 24 were injured to varying degrees of severity, and eight people went missing.

Regarding the attack on the frigate Admiral Essen, the document mentions the injury of one person.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense previously claimed that a fire allegedly occurred on the cruiser Moskva, followed by the detonation of ammunition, and that the entire crew was allegedly evacuated.

It was previously reported that on the night of January 22, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine attacked the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied territories, striking a number of enemy targets.

As a reminder, French naval forces, with the support of intelligence provided by the United Kingdom, intercepted a tanker belonging to the Russian shadow fleet in the Mediterranean Sea.
