Russia announced a possible new strike by Oreshnik on Ukraine

Russia may soon use the Oreshnik ballistic missile again against Ukraine. A Russian lawmaker said that Moscow may resort to such a strike in the event of new attacks.

Andriy Kolesnyk, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, said that a new strike with Oreshnik could take place in the near future. He called the condition for its use the alleged further “increased frequency of attacks and terrorist acts against the civilian population.”

“We can use the “Oreshnik” in the event of increasing terrorist attacks on civilians. I think Ukraine is already close to being hit with the “Oreshnik”,” he said.

The new threats come amid intensified peace talks to end the war and strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on targets deep inside Russia. The Ukrainian military regularly attacks military-industrial complex enterprises, oil refineries and other facilities linked to the Russian military machine.

At the same time, there is currently no confirmation that Russia is preparing a specific launch of this missile.

Russia has already used “Oreshnik” against Ukraine at least 3 times.

The first recorded strike took place on November 21, 2024. Russia announced the use of a missile on the Dnieper River. According to the SBU, it was launched from the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region, and the flight time to the target was about 15 minutes.

The second strike took place on the night of January 9, 2026. Russia used the Oreshnik on a critical infrastructure facility in the Lviv region near Rudne, approximately 70 km from the border with Poland.

The third time, the Oreshnik was recorded during a massive attack on the night of May 24, 2026. A Russian missile struck in the Bila Tserkva area of the Kyiv region, damaging garages and starting a fire. The use of the missile was confirmed by the Air Force, and later by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Recall that after a series of launches against Ukraine, Russia may have only one combat-ready medium-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik . Analysts believe that Moscow could have used up most of its stock of such missiles.
