Russia announced attacks on data centers: large-scale Internet outages in Kyiv and the region

The Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops were striking data centers in Ukraine during the September 23 attack. About 100,000 households in Kyiv and the region experienced internet problems amid the shelling.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the attacks on data centers, and the Ministry of Digital Affairs reported on the consequences for the Internet network.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims that during the day, Russian troops used drones to strike data processing centers, as well as logistics and warehouse terminals. Moscow stated that these facilities were allegedly used “to support the activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

At the same time, after the Russian attack, large-scale internet problems arose in Kyiv and the Kyiv region. According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the outages affected about 100,000 households.

Specialists are assessing the extent of the damage and repairing the network to restore stable communication.

Earlier, Kyiv internet providers also reported damage to their data centers as a result of Russian shelling . In particular, “Pavutina” reported a large-scale accident, and UTELS reported damage to the data center where the company’s main equipment is located.
