Russia announces nuclear exercises “under threat of aggression”

Russia has begun large-scale exercises to prepare for and potentially use nuclear forces. The maneuvers will last from May 19 to 21.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

According to the Russian agency, more than 64,000 military personnel, more than 7,800 pieces of equipment, as well as more than 200 missile launchers and eight strategic nuclear submarines were involved in the exercises.

The Strategic Missile Forces, the Northern and Pacific Fleets are participating in the exercises. The Russian side states that during the maneuvers they practice actions “under conditions of threat of aggression” and test the readiness of the troops to deter the enemy.

Special attention is planned to be paid to interaction with Belarus. In particular, the parties are working on the preparation and possible use of nuclear weapons located on the territory of Belarus.

As reported, on Monday, May 18, exercises began in Belarus for military units responsible for the use and provision of nuclear weapons.
