On the night of October 14, Russian troops attacked all three city thermal power plants (CHPs) in Kyiv. Energy facilities in the capital, Kyiv region, and Kharkiv were also hit.
This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretsky.
According to him, the main targets of the massive shelling were the facilities of the power system, in particular those that ensure the life of the capital.
“The target of Russian ballistic missiles was the energy system facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv and the region. In the capital, all three city CHP plants were attacked,” Koretsky noted.
In addition, Russian troops struck critical energy facilities in the Kyiv region, which provide electricity to the capital and central regions of Ukraine.
The Prime Minister did not specify information about the extent of damage to each of the three thermal power plants.
During the night attack, Russian forces also attacked railway infrastructure in five regions of Ukraine.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, this concerns Kharkiv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytsia and Ternopil regions.
Significant material damage was recorded at the facilities. However, thanks to the early evacuation of workers, no injuries were reported.
Railway workers are currently carrying out restoration work.
Recall, on the night of October 14, Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy sector with 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 drones. At least 600,000 people were left without electricity. President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the US to respond harshly to the shelling.
On October 11, emergency power outages were imposed in four districts of Kyiv due to the consequences of Russian attacks. The restrictions were in effect in parts of the Obolonsky, Podilsky, Shevchenkivsky, and Desnyansky districts. Electric transport was also temporarily suspended due to the lack of voltage.
In addition, the Ministry of Energy previously reported on the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure . The department explained that damage to high-voltage networks and energy equipment limits the possibility of transmitting electricity between regions and complicates restoration work.
